Whether it is a romantic dinner for two or a family feast, fine wines will always be a great accompaniment to any meal.  Many cultures never have an evening meal without a glass or two.  For some of us this also is the case but for the majority it is saved for a special occassion.  Having a glass of red, white or champagne has become second nature to many these days compared to years ago when you maybe had a glass at a wedding only.

With wine bars becoming very popular especially for after work drinks and wineries offering tastings along with food the average person has had more of a chance to try these beverages and realize that they not only taste great but they are not too expensive either.  Of course you can buy very expensive bottles if you can afford it but for the average person you can still buy a lovely drop for a reasonable price.

Most restaurants these days will also be liscenced to serve alcohol.  It doesn't matter what cuisine you choose, the restaurant will no doubt have a wine to suit each meal.  Each and every cuisine has specific types of wine that are customarily served and enjoyed. Usually the preferred  accompaniment is listed near the top or in a section of wines from the particular country on which the restaurant's food is based. And if you’re visiting a particular country it's even easier. Just ask your waiter what is recommended by the restaurant. Usually the common ones in stock will be the local varieties.

Of course you do not have to go to a restaurant to enjoy such a drink because many people now have their own collection of reds and whites.  Some belong to clubs where they recieve a different bottle monthly to try.  Others go to wineries or their local liquor store.  Whatever way you do it you will always be able to find fine wines to enjoy with a good meal, friends or just to have a quiet drink on your own.
